Culture City of East Asia 2022

Oita, along with Jinan and Wenzhou in China, Gyeongju in South Korea, is a Culture City of East Asia 2022. Begun in 2014, this annual event promotes cultural exchange, mutual understanding and solidarity between the three neighbouring countries. Oita, perhaps because of the city’s relative diminutive size, has been selected as host on a prefectural level and is using the opportunity to showcase its culture including art, music, cuisine, traditions, lifestyle, environment and, of course, onsen hot springs.
