A short drive out of central Saiki on the Tsurumisaki peninsula is Matsuura, a small hotel and restaurant that makes the most of its position on a coastal inlet overlooking a fishing port. Not surprisingly, seafood features on Matsuura’s menu and the husband and wife owners are experts at putting on a delicious banquet composed of locally caught seasonal fare.
Their restaurant is very popular, especially each autumn during the ise-ebi spiny lobster festival when tables and chairs spread into the hotel’s foyer to cope with demand. Bookings are often needed but certainly essential during the festival. On any overnight stays, ask for a room on the third floor for the best views across the inlet.
