Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon

Marathons are a popular spectator and participatory sport in Japan with events held across the country. Each year in early February Oita Prefecture’s two principal cities, Beppu and Oita, host the Betsudai Mainichi Marathon, which traces its roots back to 1952 making it one of the longest standing marathons in Japan. It is also listed as a Marathon Grand Champion Race, a vital event that attracts professional athletes, both international and Japanese, who fiercely compete not only for podium positions but also Olympic team selection.
