Suncloud Outfitters

Suncloud Outfitters, which is just off the beaten track in central Yufuin, is widely sort out for its range of lesser-known but quality Japanese and overseas outdoor wear brands for both adults and children together with the gear to go with them. Unusually, it also rents out trekking and camping gear.

The amiable and enterprising owner, who goes by the self-styled moniker of ‘Kevin’, is a great source of local information, introductions and ideas for exploring Oita’s outdoors. He is always ready to chat in Japanese or English over a coffee with visitors to his shop, when not attending to other customers either here or upstairs at his other business, a portrait studio.

Suncloud Outfitters grew out of Kevin’s passion for the outdoors especially trekking, skiing, cycling, camping and tenkara traditional Japanese-style fly fishing. With some pre-planning you may be able to join him on one of his adventures in and around Oita.
